Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband? by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn

5.0

This book was so fun to read! It made me smile so many times and I loved learning more about Nigerian culture.

Yinka is thirty one – and unmarried. This is unheard of in her community so her aunties, and mother, constantly nag her and pray she find a Huzband. It gets to the point that at every gathering, no matter what else is going on, they pray for Yinka to find a Huzband! When Yinka is made redundant, hope you get a huzband. When her younger sister has a baby, hope you get a huzband.

Gah, could you imagine? As someone who was not raised in a tight knit family, or even community, the thought of all these people wanting Yinka to find a huzband is astonishing to me! Sure she’s 31 but she graduated from Oxford and made a wonderful life for herself. This book was so fun and frankly eye opening. I love reading because it allows us to stretch our minds and learn about other places and cultures.

I would gladly give this book more than 5 stars, but, 5/5.
