Rosa Parks: A Children's Book About Civil Rights, Racial Equality, and Justice by Emma Fitzelle-Jones, Inspired Inner Genius
5.0
“The story of Rosa Parks is one of quiet bravery,” the IIG’s illustrated biography of this civil rights leader begins. Did you know that even before Rosa refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus, she was already working for the NAACP to protect the rights of Black individuals? While Rosa Parks is often a person my third grade students already know about, we all learned even more about this woman who made such a difference through this biography. This particular title might be best for students in Grades 2-5, given the tougher thematic content and complex vocabulary. As usual, text features like the glossary and included teaching guide set this series apart! This one is certainly a wonderful biography to share with any young person you know!
