Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur
5.0
“i have what i have and i am happy i’ve lost what i’ve lost and i am still happy - outlook”
Sometimes I start to forget how wonderful poetry is. Luckily, the universe likes to send me reminders every now and then. Last weekend's reminder was milk and honey. Rupi Kaur has given her readers an amazing gift. She has given them a piece of her heart and how beautiful it is. Kaur isn't afraid of any topic, and she owns her words. milk and honey's subject matters rages from rape and body image to parental relationships and first dates. There is a verse in this collection for every moment: happy and awkward and beautiful and devastating and honest.
“i am hopelessly a lover and a dreamer and that will be the death of me”
I can honestly say I have read very few truly good poetry collections. milk and honey is one of them. There is not one false note in it, and it is beautiful without being pretentious. Kaur writes poetry that feels modern and honest, and it is clear she is not afraid of her word's power. I recommend milk and honey to anyone who loves poetry.
