Slow and clunky to start with dialogue that didn’t seem believable, and too much stream of consciousness back filling.
But by mid book I was hooked on figuring out the mystery, and I did not figure it out before I was meant to, so that pushes up a star rating for me. I’m hopeful that the subsequent books in the series will be smoother from the start.
I admit that it’s fun having a mystery based in Minnesota even though I’m only somewhat familiar with most of the locations in the book.
