ARC Review
This book was so good. The writing is beautiful.
In this book we meet Simon and Evan. It takes place in a small religious town.
Simon was once married to Evan’s aunt Ellie to hide his sexuality and to help Ellie get out from under her parents who pressured her to start a family when she really wanted to focus on her career, the arrangement worked until it didn’t. Simon and Ellie divorced and Simon moved to New York and Ellie went to California. They both kept in touch with Evan after they left but Simon doesn’t see Evan again for 7 years, until Evan’s girlfriend dies in childbirth after her mother leaves things in God’s hands, and he goes back to support Evan through this difficult period.
I enjoyed this book immensely. I really connected with Evan’s character and his struggle as a young single parent having been one myself. Evan and Simon’s relationship is so organic. They already have a love for each other, that builds and changes throughout the story. It’s definitely a slow burn but the story itself is so good that it makes up for the lack of spice, not to say there isn’t any but it’s not a lot, it’s about halfway through the book before anything happens between the MCs.
The side character are also amazing! Ellie was supportive of Simon and Evan even if it was a bit weird her ex husband/bff was now dating her nephew. And Maggie ugh so sweet, I just loved her so much.
