I love reading a historical fiction book about a time period that I’ve never read before. Particularly when the descriptions are as vivid as they are in this.
This book is absolutely brutal and sad but also a beautiful story of friendship and love. I was fully invested from the first page. I dipped in and out of the audiobook alongside the paperback, which was narrated brilliantly and really added to the overall vibe.
Amara’s strength was astounding and I was on the edge of my seat throughout because it feels as though the progress she makes can be ruined at any point. This happens with other characters so I was dreading what could happen to Amara.
I can’t wait to read the sequel and continuing Amara’s journey. I’ll be doing that very soon, for sure.
