In Watermelon Sugar by Richard Brautigan
4.0
In Watermelon Sugar is bizarre, unique, and amazing. This book is written by a poet and you can feel that as you read; it feels like a form of free-verse, abstract poetry. The story itself is 138 pages, many of these pages only being half filled as you're quickly taken through the narrators thoughts. The whole story takes place in only a few days, with some story telling of past events, in what seems to be a post-apocalyptic world.
The great thing about this book is you feel like the author could be alluding to so many things and feelings in some instances, while he uses simple, to-the-point writing and sentences. In other instances, the things he writes are such universal and understandable things.
This was short, interesting, chaotic, and a great example of the post-modern/post-apocalyptic books that were written from the 40's to the 60's.
