The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn

4.0

4 stars.

I really enjoy Kate Quinn's writing. Her female-focused historical fiction and the perfect narration by Saskia Maarlevald are top tier.

The Diamond Eye is the fictionalized story of real-life Russian sharpshooter Mila Pavlichenko.

Quinn is a magnificent researcher and lends authenticity and relatability to all of her protagonists. Finding myself cheering for a Russian sniper is not something I would have guessed I would do.

I enjoyed many aspects of the story but found all of the romantic storyline sort of unnecessary and frankly it made the story less interesting to me. What makes Pavlichenko fascinating is NOT the men she went to bed with.
