Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
5.0
I'm up-ing my rating to a 5 upon reread. I loved everything about this. The witches POV does start off slow but they're so good by the end. I forgot how much I love these fucking characters ❤❤❤❤

4.5 Stars. Favorite book in the series so far!
I think I've finally collected my thoughts enough to review this book!
Overall:
This book had it all - a slow burn romance, tons of character development, lies and deception, battles, magic, heartbreak, big reveals. There was so much action, especially in the second half, and I couldn't get through the story fast enough.
What I loved:
1. Aelin's growth. No she isn't perfect, and she's still a little hot-tempered, but I love how her character has grown from annoying, selfish Celaena. She still has her moments where I roll my eyes, but her interactions with Lysandra and Evangeline especially, show how much her character has developed and matured. I'm really enjoying watching her grow into her role as queen.
2. Rowan. He's just the flipping best.
3. Manon. I wasn't a huge fan of the witch's story in the previous book, and even in the first half of this one. But learning about Manon and Asterin's past really saved this arch for me. I love the internal battle Manon is obviously going through - who does she put her trust in: herself and her coven or her matron who has previously deceived her. I'm excited for the next part of this story.
4. Lysandra. Hands down new favorite character. She's so multi dimensional and serious badass. I want so much more of her story in the next books.
Not so favorite:
1. The witch story was really slow in the first half of this book. I felt like a lot of things were repeated over, and over to the point where I was just skimming some of these chapters. Luckily this arch definitely redeemed itself in the end!
2. Chaol. Prepare your torches - I don't like Chaol... I just don't care about his character very much. He's so 'Woe is me' all the time. Like I get it, he's the handsome, brooding guy who's heart is just oh-so-broken by Aelin. But come on, they were together for all of what, a couple months? Maybe? Idk, the heartbreak felt a little overdone.
