Heartbreak Hockey by S. Legend
5.0
I know that I've said this not once but several times, but I feel the need to repeat it. If you want to know what it feels like to ride a ROLLER COASTER, you don't have to go to a fair or amusement park. YOU ONLY HAVE TO READ ONE BOOK BY MISS MOCK!!!
Oh Lord! What an incredible journey of sensations this book provokes. You've got it all: banter, fun, angst, drama, hot, very hot spanking moments and very shoothing, healing spanking moments, you've got hockey, real hockey! And you have love.
What can I say about the characters? I fell in love with Mercy almost instantly. His love for his family, the sacrifices he had to make, his fears, daring to want more despite those fears, the vulnerability and tenderness that hides behind his "hardness" and that we can read in his diary. His possessiveness. He's a whole package that's utterly attractive and alluring. Now Jack...
I'm still not sure if I love Jack or not. I mean, for one, it's extremely alluring as well. His passion for hockey, so intense that he even chose the sport for his almost fiancé. Ok, I would have done the same thing if my fiancé had acted like him. His attraction to Mercy, which begins to overcome everything and makes him reevaluate much of himself and his priorities. BUT. I don't like his weakness towards his ex. He suffers because he sees his ex suffering and doesn't know how to say no, but... a large part of his ex's not wanting to let go is because Jack doesn't let go first. He doesn't make a definitive cut. There is a point where you must choose, and he hesitates, and he doubts, and doubts. All so as not to hurt Rhett, but who gets hurt? Yeah, you guessed it. Mercy.
Anyway, I sort of forgive him because, well, he's young and in a way, naive, despite his mischief and that spark that characterizes him, which makes him vulnerable to someone more manipulative, so... Also, well I have to say it, Jack. What the heck did you see in Rhett, eh?!
Now another topic. Something I never expected to say from a [a:S. Legend|14493179|S. Legend|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1615943642p2/14493179.jpg] book. There is no threesome (at least between the MC but these kids are pretty wild among them though not on page), no foursome or poly. It's pure, pure MM love!!! That's not to say that she doesn't show us the kinky side of her. Nooope. There is enough kinkyness to make reading this story an absolute orgasmic journey!
I loved this book. I am always amazed by these authors who do not stay within a mold. That they allow themselves to create and get out of what seems to be their comfort zone (or what we perceive as their comfort zone) and dare to something different. It is an amazing and true pleasure to read them and it makes me feel privileged to be let into their worlds.
I was given an advance copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
