March: Book Two by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin
5.0
Somehow even more powerful than the already excellent first volume of this series, John Lewis' March continues to absolutely blow me out of the water. Book Two focuses on the Freedom Rides and the March on Washington. The danger that Freedom Riders in particular put themselves into had never really hit home for me until reading this--I understood it abstractly, of course, but not how real the possibility of their deaths was and the way that they got back on those buses anyway. An incredible and truly inspiring dedication to democracy and the American values of freedom and justice. A must read for these times and all times.
