I always feel bad when I dislike a wildly popular book, but I gave up in this one 2/3 of the way in. I’ll try another Amy Tan book someday.

Some of the individual stories in Joy Luck Club are very good, but the characters are indistinguishable from each other and the stories don’t tie together. I very much hate collections of short stories that pretend to be a novel.

Since I didn’t finish, I won’t give it a star rating.
