The Tripartite Soul by Eve S. Nicholson
5.0
I grabbed this as my free Kindle Prime book for April. I read it quickly. It was because I really enjoyed it (at times I'm rushing through just to get done and onto something else ... NOT the case here). I'll admit it started off a bit shaky for me, as all the characters (different/unique names, being a fantasy world) and the setting, and the three-way was introduced. Reading the synopsis, I was wondering there would be three different perspectives, but the POV was just the protagonist Eviona (one of the three). Zefforah was a giant flying horse/monster (the last book I read had a flying horse! I really try to vary my genre but ended up with these two fantasy with flying horses back to back).
I almost think the first chapter should be eliminated (or put into the story chronologically) ... it confused me a bit at first, as I didn't quite catch that chapter 1 was in the future (about 3/4 of the way into the book) and then chapter 2 started back at the beginning. Maybe if there had been something to point that out more clearly ... yet still, the first chapter was a bit of a spoiler as we automatically knew of somethings that were yet to come before we even began. The chapters weren't numbered ... but each had a word and definition (associated with that chapter) at the beginning. It was a good English lesson as well!
This would be a good read for a book club I think ... many things to discuss. Destiny, true love ... there is a whopper of a love triangle!
A few chapters in, I was quite captivated with Eviona's story. I did guess a couple of things that unfolded later in the book, but one twist took me by complete surprise. As the story would touch on something, then move on, I'd wonder if the person or the action would come back into play later ... and it did.
A very enjoyable read, I'd recommend it!
