Elizabeth of East Hampton by Emily Harding, Audrey Bellezza

5.0

I found this author duo when Lauren Layne recommended Emma of 83rd Street, and I loved their writing. When I found out Elizabeth of East Hampton is a Pride and Prejudice retelling, I knew I'd be reading it as soon as possible. I put a Libby hold and I waited my turn, found it signed in a bookstore, bought it and then finally got to read it. As with any other P&P retellings, I loved it, it was pretty much guaranteed that I would like it as I have rarely found a P&P retelling I haven't liked.

Will and Lizzy have insane chemistry, and while this follows the plot structure of P&P, I loved the differences. I was shocked, happily surprised, and a ton of other positive emotions. I loved how the surfing was added in, it was a great way to modernize the story especially with Lizzy being stranded. Jane and Charlie are the exact shame, shy, sweet, and perpetually happy characters that I loved, but I loved how the younger sisters changed. Lydia, Mary, and Kitty being fully flushed out and having their own plot lines was an amazing choice and did so well with making this story fresh and new!

Overall, if you like P&P, give this book a try, if you haven't read Pride and Prejudice, still give this book a try because it is the perfect way to see why so many people love this story!
