Empire of Dirt by Philip C. Quaintrell

5.0

The second book in The Echoes Saga is just as great as the first but with everything feeling that little bit improved upon

I liked the character arcs, especially Taurens, they all felt more polished and there’s so many entertaining (both good and traumatic) elements happening amongst all the characters that it’s hard to put down, even following the villain was so much fun. The development of some of the characters was also a highlight, even more so seeing certain friendships blossom

The pacing was great and it felt as epic as a 1000 page tome. There’s some plot changing moments that took me by surprise and the action scenes are bloody but engaging to follow. You learn more about the history of the world and it was interesting to learn about the backgrounds of certain fantastical characters / creatures and how they came about and their importance to the story

The intense ending absorbed me setting up the final book in the first trilogy arc very well and it will most definitely be being picked up soon!
