The Target by Lena Hendrix
5.0
I feel guilty admitting this, but I have to: this is my first book by the magical Lena Hendrix— but my god it will not be my last!
I went into this beauty blind and it surpassed every expectation I could have. Small town romance with a spicy flair. Forbidden romance? Check. Brother’s best friend? Check. Bodyguard romance? Check. Found family? Check. Male sub? CHECK! IT WAS PERFECTION.
Gemma is still working through the trauma of her kidnapping from years ago, but what’s currently weighing on her mind is how Scott Dunn, her former bodyguard federal agent up and left after they shared a moment four years ago. And now he’s back. And she can’t figure out what to do, how to feel, or what to think. And he’s only making it more complicated.
This book had trauma to work through, broken relationships that needed time to heal, and people who knew how to help the healing process. I loved reading about Gemma’s growth and the courage and fire within her – and I loved witnessing Scott realize that life can be more than a job.
If you haven’t picked up anything by Hendrix, take this as a sign to fix that. She’s queen of small town spicy romance for a reason.
Tropes:
Brother’s best friend
Age Gap
Forbidden romance
Friends to Enemies to Friends to Lovers
Forced Proximity
Bodyguard
Small Town
