Marneus Calgar #2 by Kieron Gillen
5.0
Another incredible issue!
This seriously has not right to be this good!
Marneus returns to the Calgar estate and continues his reflections of his intense training and tribulations, before his Astartes trials.
I'm am shocked and giddy with how good this series is and I'm so glad I read the Sisters of Battle one first because, while that was great, there's no way it wouldn't have been a disappointment after this.
I think something that really sets this apart from a lot of the comics post Warhammer Monthly is that this is just a good comic that happens to be about Marneus Calgar and set in the Warhammer 40K galaxy. So many, like the disappointing Blood and Thunder mini series I read recently (although those covers were incredible!), hammer the 40K stuff and skimp on the actual story and writing, whereas this is just something else.
Maybe I'm just overly impressed and this is just hitting me some kind of way, so be aware four mileage may vary, but I'm having such an unexpectedly good time!
I spoke more about the strange vibe and aesthetics of this series in my review of the first issue and how they are surprising, but absolutely work wonders: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6339085452
I need more Kieron Gillen Warhammer comics!
