Our Dark Duet by V.E. Schwab
5.0
I love Victoria Schwab, but I hate what she did to me with this book.
Also, the lack of romance may have been the main reason why I picked up This Savage Song , the brief, very brief, taste of it between August and Kate, I wasn’t mad at it. By the time it happened, I already saw it coming because it was just such a natural progression, and didn’t come out of left field. Those are the kinds of romances I like to read.
The ending broke my heart; not just for August, but for those lives who were lost in the “final battle,” so to speak.
I really loved the first book (that I need to reread now because I forgot some details, and while this book helped answer some questions, it didn’t answer them all), but I think I really fucking loved Our Dark Duet more. There’s just something about it that gave me such a satisfying conclusion even though I damn near bawled my eyes out in the end. Victoria Schwab has a gift for writing, and I’m so grateful that I finally picked up two of her works, and I’ll continue to pick up whatever else she puts out.
