Pretty enjoyable read. I was most captivated by Jordan's worldbuilding. It felt incredibly immersive for me. The plot was also one of the strongest elements of this book. It was intriguing, lots of solid twists, and similar to much traditional fantasy while still remaining unique and fun.
The characters were solid, and relatively enjoyable. I couldn't stand Mat for 75% of the book. Moiraine, Lan, Perrin, and Rand (for the most part) were stand-out characters for me. Lan in particular.
The magic system is a bit confusing. Still not fully understandung how everything works. Same thing with the end of the book, which lost me a bit.
Solid starting entry for The Wheel of Time, and I'm definitely looking forward to continuing this long (😅) series.
Edit 8/7/23: Bumping this down to a 3.5
