I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston
5.0
After reading ONE LAST STOP, I knew I needed to read McQuiston’s newest release, but I genuinely had no idea what to expect from it. Especially based on the cover. And then I went into it blind..
…And I’m so glad I did! This was and is a phenomenal read. A young adult LGBTQIA+ romance mixed with mystery, self-discovery, identity-exploration, overcoming oppression and prejudice… It had a bit of everything! And part of what I truly loved was the strong female protagonists.
I loved that it wasn’t only the girls who were trying to discover and understand themselves better, but the guys as well – and those who didn’t identify with either gender. I love the characters and their big hearts, always willing to explain their own discoveries with those who haven’t had the chance to explore the nonbinary world just yet. I loved the exploration and clue game, and how characters came together throughout the entire book – not just because of the game they were forced into playing.
Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about this book. It was far more than I expected and hoped for and for that, I love it. A genuinely pleasant surprise! And one worth reading for so many reasons.
