Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White
dark
- Strong character development? Yes
4.5
This is the second Andrew Joseph White book I've read, and this was much more in-your-face than his debut novel was. Which isn't really saying much, because his debut novel was also extremely in-your-face, but I'm not saying that as a bad thing.
This was aggressive, and the aggression of the writing fit the story's plot, the story's message, and the current-day irl timeline. The most subtle part of this book was Miles's discovery and acceptance of being aromantic, and even that was very obvious. To me, anyway, because I know what that all looks like from being a part of the community myself, both with the aromantic spectrum and the autism spectrum. But the author didn't try to hide it in pretty language, it was all just a background situation to what was actually going on in the story.
I loved this, though. The ending was a little too neatly-wrapped-up for me, but it wasn't so bad to the point of altering my opinions about the rest of the book.
