6 Stars. New Fav Hannah Grace book. Will review later when I can form a cognitive thought
12/9/24
I finally can form a cognitive thought on this book and how much I loved it. I'm going to try to make this as spoiler free as I can but I doubt it will happen. I read this book in September and I've thought about it daily.
I was in a minor reading slump going into this book. I devoured another book right before but going into reading this I was already prepared to be bored and felt like it was going to be daunting to read since I wasn't in the mood but I was so wrong. I picked this book up and within 50 pages I knew it would be a six star read for me. There was just something about it that I loved so much that made reading it so much fun.
This book follows Henry, the newly elected captain of the hockey team and a junior at Maple Hills. Henry has a lot on his shoulders and is terrified of failing everyone and himself. The female main character is Halle who is trying to write a novel but does not have the experience she needs to write it. The two of them have one of the cutest meet cutes I've ever read in a book and eventually start fake dating.
This book was the definition of no plot just vibes. Both characters are just perfectly imperfect and it just makes the story so much better. Halle was the eldest daughter who had so much pressure put on her to succeed and as the eldest daughter I can tell you that everything she was feeling was something I personally have felt. Henry is so anxious about falling short and he has no reason to be. Both of these characters are me wrapped into one and I've never felt more seen by the characters.
The "third act breakup" was so well written and just made sense in the context of the rest of the story. It is very rare that I feel that way about a third act breakup. Usually they aren't my favorite thing in the world because it feels like the author just throws them in there to move the storyline along and this one didn't feel like that at all.
Overall recommend so hard. Please read this. Please rate it five stars because that's what it deserves.
