Landline by Rainbow Rowell

5.0

I seriously think that Rainbow Rowell has to be my all-time favorite author. I have adored every book she has written. I was so excited to get my hands on Landline. I knew that it might be different since it was really geared towards adults, but I loved it so much. It was one of those books that I read at just the perfect time. I could relate and needed to hear it.

Likes:

I loved the storyline. I have been married for 5 years, and although we do not have kids, I can see how life starts to blend together. I have recently been feeling like I am crawling out of my skin to do something new, to experience something other than the mundane. I feel like Georgie can totally relate. She has just been living her life and going through the motions until she realizes that something needs to be changed.

I loved the mysterious landline phone. I do think that going back in time when you just started dating, you do realize how fun that time of getting to know you and first kisses, first love, really was. You have to remember your path to marriage and the love you have for each other. I know that Georgie kinda forgot this as she pursued her career and her family.

I love Rainbow’s snark and wit. I snort laugh all the time when I am reading her books. She writes in such a way that makes you want to be best friends with her characters.

The pacing of the book really made it hard to put down. Even though it wasn’t high action, I was still compelled to continue reading. I actually read the whole book in one night because I could not sleep.

I think that the message of the book was great. I know that I sometimes get lax about my relationship with my husband and take it for granted. He is there, he loves me, ect. But I have to remember that there is so much more to us than that. He is an amazing person, hilarious and my best friend. He loves me who exactly who I am even when I am crazy. He loves me even when I am so focused on something else that I forget to see him. I think that most couples can see themselves in Georgie and Neil’s shoes.

Gripes:

The only thing is maybe I wanted a little more. Although it ends at a perfect spot, as with Eleanor & Park, I want to know more, to stay cocooned inside the story, the characters.
