Such an impactful and important read. Despite the heavy nature, Percival approaches the story with a brillance, hope and at times humorous nature. It is a masterclass in prose and dialogue. Not a single word isn’t considered. The choices are poignant and meaningful. It is beautifully crafted and it gives James the agency he so deserved. No longer the illiterate slave “companion” to Huck, he writes is own story. A story that should have been all a long.
