The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan

5.0

Wowowow, I started the Wheel of Time series. I feel as though I have been working my way up to this for a while because in my head, this series is like Everest. I was so surprised to find that it was way more accessible than I expected and it didn’t completely blow my mind. I am only one book in though, so this could change…

This book gave me real traditional epic fantasy vibes. It was written quite a while ago now and although I’ve seen people say that it has aged badly due to Jordan’s descriptions of women (a sign of the times imo), I really didn’t notice and it just felt super cozy and comforting to me. The world that Jordan created is obviously phenomenal and I know that this is just the tip of the iceberg. I feel as though I’ve already learned so much, but have been assured that I actually really don’t know anything yet, so that’s exciting.

The sense of found family was STRONG and I really enjoyed reading their interactions with each other. These scenes meant more to me than the action scenes, actually. Perrin currently has my heart but I’m also really intrigued by the female characters and I’m hoping they get developed over the rest of the series.

I really liked the ending, although I didn’t think it was too hard to see what was coming, and it set up the sequel that well that I have dived into it immediately. I can’t wait to spend my autumn/winter being immersed in this world and jumping into the fandom.
