3.5

This book has one of the most impactful first chapters I’ve ever read in a YA fantasy. We’re immediately pulled into the unique world and introduced to a very strong MC. In the beginning I was convinced that this book was going to be a new favorite of mine.

Sadly, everything started going south around the halfway point. It’s like the other tried to include every single trope ever, which made the story very predictable very quickly.

Throughout, I kept hoping my suspicions were wrong and that Noor wouldn’t be ‘the chosen one’. I wished her mom was just a regular human. I absolutely loved the way her relationship with her mother was written before we found out she was still alive as Sol.

The ending also felt EXTREMELY rushed. An important plottwist in the final (and shortest) chapter was just such an unsatisfying ending.

Overall 3.5/5, got me out of a year-long reading slump…
