peluda by Melissa Lozada-Oliva

I’ve loved Melissa Lozada-Oliva’s poetry for a long time, and it was such a pleasure to read her work in print. Her work explores what it means to be Latina in America but through a lens of hairiness—something so taboo and traditionally unfeminine in Western culture. These poems leave me considering family, femininity, whiteness, race, emotion, yearning, and more. I can tell she poured her soul into these poems, and they have a voice that’s unique, provoking, and flawed. Beautiful poems, and I can’t wait for her reading later this month!
