I picked up this book specifically because it was a book club pick so take my review with a grain of salt because this is not typically a book I would pick up.
I thought there was a lot of beautiful parts of the story. Some heartbreaking moments and some humour as well. But overall I was bored for majority of the story, although I was interested enough to continue, and find out how the story was going to end.
A lot of it seemed pretty predictable. Marcellus, the gigantic, pacific octopus, was definitely the highlight of the story for me. He was pretentious, hilarious, and witty. I enjoyed every single chapter in his perspective.
The highlight of this book is definitely the characters, their relationship and their growth as they deal with things.
I know many people thoroughly enjoyed this book and that is great. Just be worried that if this is not a book you would typically pick up it might not be as enjoyable for you.
