The Christmas Murder Game by Alexandra Benedict

2.0

Eh, nothing really offensive about it, just kind of dull with very average to bad writing. The setup is great: people stuck in an old ancestral home are playing a game full of riddles and they start dying one by one. Very Agatha Christie. Should have been a 3 star almost only based on that but alas, the characters were one-dimentional, often boring or over the top. The MC was dull dull dull and pretty spineless. There isn’t really any actual sleuthing. People die, and others keep playing. The stakes never feel that great. I guessed the culprit very early on, and I think if you’ve got at least some familiarity with mysteries it’s easy to see. A lot is made of the maze on the grounds of the house, and basically nothing ever really happens in there which was really baffling. It lacked spark.
