billy saying "i'm surprised they still play us on the radio. sometimes i listen. the other day, they were playing 'turn it off' on the classic rock station. i sat in the car in the driveway and i listened. we were pretty good. and then daisy right after saying "we were really great". when you realise how much this ending means after you read the whole book is just amazing.
edit 9 months later: so i first read daisy jones & the six at the very beginning of 2022 and i liked it but it wasn't like my favourite and it wasn't really a book that i still thought about for a while after reading it. i really enjoyed it but i said that there was just something, didn't know what (still don't) that kept me from giving it 5 stars, but now that i've read it a second time... oh my god. i am literally speechless????????? this book is DEFINITELY, 100%, NO DOUBT, 5 stars and i'm even adding it to my list of top favourites. this. book. is. a. goddamn. masterpiece. it might be because i listened to the audiobook of it this time that i loved it so so much, like WAY more than i did the first time. since the book is written in interview format, every character has a different voice and listening to them actually speaking all those lines just hit SO MUCH HARDER. if you're going to read this book, DO IT IN AUDIO FORM you won't regret it. all the narrators are SO GOOD like you can feel the emotion in their voices so clearly and it just completely enhances the story and the experience. the story is perfectly constructed, the characters are so beautifully and perfectly flawed and real and raw, the writing is perfect (i had my physical copy as well as the audiobook so i had to stop and highlight/underline SO much stuff the book is literally filled to the brim with tabs), the ending was perfect, everything about this book is PERFECT. all of the characters are so special to me and feel so close to my heart. it's an amazing thing, when a writer can make feel so connected with characters that objectively you have nothing in common with and they're not even real. but they made me feel SO much. when they were happy i was happy, and when they were in pain, i was in pain. daisy jones and billy dunne literally INVENTED right person wrong time trope; it's so, so, so sad in the best way possible. when i talk about this book/think about it, i feel this thing in my chest i don't know how to name but that's just how breathtaking it is. i love it so much, everyone needs to read this<3
i really enjoyed this!! i think this is the first book that wasn’t inherently romance based in a while lmao. well, other than the picture of dorian gray, but anyway! the reading experience of this book was amazing, this was my first taylor jenkins reid books and i can already tell that she’s so good at constructing such complex and flawed characters but that’s what makes you feel empathy for them and what makes them more realistic, cuz real people make big mistakes and mess up a lot. the writing in general is also great, i underlined soooo many quotes from this. also i thought the whole concept of the book was super cool, i’m really into music so i loved reading about the ugly truths of the music industry and what goes into making an album and the relationships that form and break between the members of the band. i’m not exactly sure what kept me from giving it a full 5 stars, but idk i just didn’t feel like giving it that. i think maybe it’s because i felt like the whole book was leading up to the big thing/reason(s) that lead to the band breaking up, but when you actually reach that point it’s just a bit underwhelming? idk, but it’s fine, i really liked it :)
