Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

4.0

I was very impressed by [b:Red, White & Royal Blue|41150487|Red, White & Royal Blue|Casey McQuiston|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1566742512l/41150487._SY75_.jpg|61657690]. I'd had friends who'd been talking about it for a long time, including one friend who wrote an album of which I've heard a few songs and love.

I loved the banter between Henry and Alex. They were both strong characters, and I loved how they interacted with each other and how we found out things about them gradually. I had listened to my friend Autumn Brooke's song "Coffee" (https://wizardrock.bandcamp.com/track/coffee-rwrb-demo) quite a few times before reading this, and I loved how she turned the feel of this into a song. I thought the book would be spoiled for me because of the song, but it turns out that I was able to enjoy it all the more with a fan interpretation of what turned out to be a small part of the book.

One of the most interesting parts of this was reading the imagined 2016 political scene while coming up on the 2024 scene, where something along those lines is very close to being a reality. I liked the female and POC empowerment scene looking at what could be if the election goes well and we put a woman of color in the White House. It's exciting.
