One of the strangest books I have read, a nice mixture of Kathryn Davis and maybe “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.” I was ready to give this one 3 stars but damn, that ending. The setting and the glacier gave me The Thing vibes, but that was only the mood. This story was wholly different from anything I have read or seen. Also surprisingly quippy and funny. The wordplay was glorious. My main takeaway was not to trust the assuredness you feel in your belief systems. But I also come away with a new respect for those who cannot believe we came from nothing. The need for a Creator is the most human need. But really the only Creators are woman. From whence we came. The focus on women as otherworldly in this book is interesting. Men have historically been the authorities, so literature is full of stories of women being mysterious (and sometimes frightening) creatures. I say let them stay confused. Continue being inscrutable, ladies.
