Elementary, She Read by Vicki Delany
4.0
All in all, this was a good Sherlock Holmes pastiche and certainly an enjoyable mystery novel. The plot was very 'cozy crime' - not so gruesome that you couldn't sleep at night, but with lots of little twists and turns that made you want to read on. I loved the female Holmes - Gemma - and I also thought that it was the right choice to tell the story from her perspective, cause it gives a lot more insight to the character (and we don't get lots of that from the Original Holmes). But the deductions were sometimes a little bit too obvious for my taste. The 'magic' of Sherlock Holmes is that most of the times you can only see how he came to his conclusions after he explaines himself. (Just remember how he deduced half of Watsons life story at first glance). With Gemma you can mostly guess how she knows things before she starts to explain. But still, this was an entertaining mystery with a great setting (a Sherlock Holmes bookshop - that is the dream!) and filled with enough Sherlock Holmes titbits to make every Sherlockian very happy indeed. I will definitely read more of this series!
