Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster by Svetlana Alexiévich
5.0
Following Svetlana Alexievich's Nobel Prize of Literature, I got curious and looked for her works. Someone in goodreads has kindly pointed out a 64-pages excerpt of this book. I have read only 18 pages, not even finished with the first account (from a widow of fireman who were dispatched to Chernobyl reactor right after the incident.) and I already cried my heart out. You can feel that Alexievich did not heavily edit the accounts of these Chernobyl survivors, and that makes this book more heartbreaking and powerful.
