This novella is an amazingly crafted, action-packed fantasy. The world building is incredible. Ring Shout was a perfect blend of historical fact, African American folklore, idiomatic language, and the supernatural. Clark's monsters are horrific and so, so creepy. I'll never forget some of the images that Ring Shout put into my brain.
My only complaint about Ring Shout would be that it's too short! I fell in love with the characters; Maryse, Sadie, Chef, and Nana Jean are a monster-slaying dream team. I would read a whole series about their adventures.
