The Mixtape by Brittainy C. Cherry

I have no words. This was such an amazing book. It's been a long time since I have been able to really dive into a book and stay in it, and be so immersed with the characters and fully feel what they were feeling, but today– in this book– I found it ALL. I don't give out five stars often, but this was wholeheartedly five stars. Probably the most five star book I've ever given five stars to.
Everything in this book was real. It was moving. It had feeling and it made sense. The ups, the downs, the mention of resentment and how everyone felt at different parts of the book. The forgiveness, generational curses...all of it spoke to me so much and I may have just found my new favorite book of all time.
One of my favorite things was that it featured black characters, but it wasn't their entire personality or the reason behind the book being written or it didn't read like the characters were only their racial identities, and I know someone is going to take that wrong but it was my FAVORITE thing about this. The characters were just existing and 'being' and the entire book was about their romance, hardships, and struggles navigating their feelings– and it made me feel SO good. The characters had such depth that I almost feel like I was there with them. To make things even better...
I CRIED!!! Ya'll I love sad books/animes, and that is usually how I tell if something was good and if I really felt it– was if I cried. And oh boy the sobbing that commenced in the end?? Good grief I had to take a moment and look outside LOL. Yeah. This was it right here. If you are looking for your next read and need amazing characters, plot, and romance...here you go!!!
