Excuse me while I jolt myself out of shock…
This book hit differently than I was expecting and it was glorious! Honestly, with how Kohei and Taichi’s relationship developed, I would’ve been happy whether they ended up together or stayed friends! (Of course, I’m so excited with the direction it took!)
As someone who actually has a hearing disability, though not as bad as Kohei’s, and has to wear a hearing aid, I relate to so many of his struggles. Not being able to hear people, asking them to repeat themselves, and trying to talk loud enough to hear myself would get so exhausting. I would always just end up saying ‘nevermind’ or not speaking at all. It did affect my confidence and depression. Although wearing a hearing aid does help me hear better, it’s still such a pain taking care of it, going to appointments regularly, charging it, and all knowing that my hearing could get better - or it could get worse.
I Hear the Sunspot makes me want to cry happy and sad tears at the same time. The balance of Kohei and Taichi’s personalities is incredibly well-done too! Most of the time, I’m a little hesitant about the ‘yin yang’ character types but not here. This story is pure perfection - and the art style is beautiful!
I was a bit nervous with the dialogue bubbles and being able to figure out whose speaking, however, it wasn’t difficult at all for some reason! I think it has to do with the personalities and mannerisms between Kohei and Taichi.
I’m so in love with these two and this story!
