As someone who is from Canada I take it very seriously that a book is written accurately to Canadian languageness towards school terminology.
And yes it may be a stupid reason to dnf a book for calling grade ten tenth grade, but it’s just inaccurate to how anyone in a Canadian high school would talk about their grade.
Also this main character should be 14 if she’s starting grade 9, not 15. Especially if her birthday is in august! Unless she was held back a grade for her to be going into grade 9 at age 15.
It may be a stupid reason to dnf a book, but if there can’t be time taken to make sure certain small things within your book are accurate, it’s just something I can’t get passed.
I was really excited about this book, but maybe it just isn’t for me.
