Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

5.0

Another beautifully written and deeply moving historical novel from Ruta Sepetys. Salt to the Sea renders the trauma of war and little known catastrophe of the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff in 1945 in the voices of four teenagers fleeing for their lives with painful and simple clarity. In a time when our world is beset by a refugee crisis unseen since the end of World War II, the reminder of the violent reality of war felt particularly poignant. One of the finest WWII books I've read in a long time....and we all know that's saying something.
