The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie

3.0

I haven’t read a lot of Christie (though I’ve watched a lot) so I can’t really compared but while this was very good, I think it’s obvious that it’s her first. It’s a little more straightforward and dry than what little I’ve read of her. Still a solid mystery with several red herrings and a delightful Poirot, obviously. I hadn’t realised that this book was narrated by Hastings before starting, and I admit this added to the charm as well! He’s so good natured and kinda clueless, it really helped keeping what Poirot was doing a bit obscured. Everything felt too neatly tied up by the end, in a way that was weirdly not as satisfying as I thought it would be. But still a solid classic mystery (duh), the first appearance of one of the greatest literary detectives and well worth the read.
