Eragon by Christopher Paolini
3.0
For about 3/4ths of this book I found it boring and slow. We spent so much time with Bom and Eragon and I just did not like either of these characters. They weren't bad, they were just kind of boring.
But than a character came a long that saved this book for me: Murtagh.
Murtagh is this broody character with a secret past and interesting motives. He is complex and his character has all this protentional. His friendship with Eragon, while rushed and very much just told to us rather than shown, it really great. I can definitely see some easy to see tropes on the horizon for them and I'm excited to see it all happen. As well, that last 1/4th of the book is action packed and the stakes I high. Its really easy to read once Murtagh enters and they start heading to the Varden.
This is just one of those situations where the book is pretty mid, but there is just that ONE character that you like so much that you have to keep reading for. And since the newest book's title is literally just his name, I'm pretty sure I am here for the long haul.
