Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells
5.0
I never thought I would be the kind of person who would get this invested in a series. The anticipation of waiting for the next book is a new experience for me and I am excited that there will likely be more in this series to come! (yay!)
I really enjoy this series, mostly because of Murderbot and how much I love the character. The humor is fantastic, but I also appreciate how the story weaves in that feeling of being "othered" that Murderbot experiences. They are a purpose built construct rather than a robot or a cyborg, they are feared and misunderstood by the humans around them to the point of derision and sometimes violence, and they make choices thinking about how they will be perceived by the people around them. I think this really hits home for the experiences of being in the LGBTQ+ community, especially when it comes to gender identity. The conversation that is had when Murderbot is forced to have an ID that identifies their name and gender because people want others to be 'warned' is just heartbreaking and I appreciate how the book handles these situations and has them throughout the book.
Now I really just want to go back and re-read the whole series. I don't ever re-read books because my TBR is already brimming at the edges, but this series really makes me want to reexperience it as a whole. As I said before I really can't wait for the next book, hopefully we will have a date soon!
