Insatiable Hunger by Ashley James

4.0

I have been thinking about writing this review for many days. And so far, it is the most difficult for me of all the ones I have written. I love this author, I love her books, I love her characters, some more than others, yes, but I love them all. Well, until this book. In this is the first MC that I didn't even get to like him. And I have to add that it's the first book of hers that I didn't love either. Did I like it? Yes, but I didn't love it.

I was waiting for this book with great expectations, but maybe that was my mistake. It's just that the blurb was fantastic, and for me it had the potential to be one of her best. And the beginning was fantastic. How did Elias and Zeke met at that party and the chemistry that seemed to exist between them? I think it was the hottest moment in the book. Next, the reasons why Zeke was marrying Elias's mother, how Elias found out, and how did it affect him? All of that, great.

But then it's like everything went off the rails. I don't condone cheating, but I understand it. I understand why it sometimes seems impossible to avoid it, and I understand that we can all make mistakes. It is what makes us human beings. But for this to happen, there has to be a reason. And here I did not find it, another that they were simply attracted to each other. It doesn't seem enough to me. I mean, just because they watched a couple of movies and talked civilly for about 10 sentences while watching them, it's not enough to make them fall head over heels for each other. All the other encounters were sexual, mostly initiated by Zeke, where he was pretty much ignorant of the fact that Elias was saying they should stop or just NO. He just ignored every time Elias said NO. And he was acting like a caveman, possessive, jealous, and demanding. And if Elias tried to walk away, he would get angry. I don't get what Elias saw in him, other than, like I said before, being sexually attracted or needing someone dominant. That could have been found elsewhere. Those two things do not seem enough to me, as I also said before, to deceive his mother or in Zeke's case, his wife. Even if at this point, we know that the marriage was just for "convenience" and that they were only friends. Well, Zeke knew this, Elias didn't, and Zeke didn't feel it necessary to tell him until near the end. It also bothered me that Zeke, being a grown, intelligent and experienced man, decided to marry Elias's mother anyway, once he found out who Elias was. Well, I think I answered my question to myself. After all, I do know where it all went off the rails. It was right there. When Zeke found out that Elias was that hot, sexy, incredible hook up he couldn't forget.

Also, why Valery gets so annoyed when she found out? I mean, yes, it was her husband of CONVENIENCE and her son, I get that, but she was also sleeping with her tenis professor! I mean... wtf?! She was no saint... And besides, was it that shocking? She knew both of them were gay and she forced them to share time and to work together, even when Elias told her he didn't want it nor need it!

Another thing, where are Elias's friends to support him at this time? The only one here is Katie, and all the people from ANOTHER series (and don't get me wrong, I loved reading them, I really did, and I love it when the series interconnect) But Elias's friends aren't here, and I think it's a large, significant absence.

Anyway, writing all this was really, really painful for me, but I needed to be honest. And the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because I believe that no author is perfect, and everyone at some point writes a book that doesn't do them justice.

I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
