Rosewater by Liv Little
5.0
I adored this! The prose was phenomenal. Liv Little is clearly an extremely talented writer and I cannot wait to read more from her. The characters were all very relatable, if not personally then relationally. Personally I related a lot to Elsie. The way she thinks about and responds to things reminded me a lot of myself. Her experiences also reminded me of my ADHD. I definitely think she’s neurodivergent. The other characters I related less to myself but rather they seemed reminiscent of people I’ve met and known throughout my life.
I read this for Sapph Lit and I enjoyed our discussion of it. A lot of people were disappointed with the ending, which I understand, it is definitely a change of pace, but l I thought it ended up working really well and tying everything together. Elsie and Juliet loved each other but they kept professing that love at the wrong time for the other. They needed the fear of losing the other to make them realize that their relationship needs to be prioritized, fuck timing. I found it to be extremely satisfying.
This is definitely a new favorite of the year and Liv Little is definitely a new auto-buy author for me!
