Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond

This was such a heartbreaking read. This gives insight into what poverty is like, specifically when it comes to people trying to find stable housing. The author focuses on eight families in Milwaukee and we see how they deal with being evicted and how difficult it is to find housing not only once you have an eviction on your record but when you have that as well as a fixed income. This book has opened my eyes to a lot that I honestly did not know and I'm ashamed to say I didn't realize how difficult it was for people. You hear about people going through certain situations but when it's laid out like this and you also see it from the landlord's side it does give a different insight. I liked how this author also gave some suggestions how to fix this issue (if only it were that easy) and also gave some insights into his experiences into following these families around in order to write this story. I would highly recommend this book because it will have people looking at the housing system in whole new light.
