The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi
1.0
This book is so incredibly boring; I couldn’t finish it.
The entire plot happens in the first 30 or so pages. And then it’s just boring surface level conversations and meager explanations of the main character’s job. The interactions with other characters mean nothing and do not add to the story. I found myself distracted with thoughts about my grocery list rather than feeling immersed in the story.
Another reviewer wrote that it’s a story written for Westerners to feel like they’re experiencing exotic India but in the end, the book lacks depth. I couldn’t agree more. It’s SO BORING. I didn’t even finish it but I could already tell what was going to happen in the end.
There’s absolutely no reason why this book should have so many positive reviews and 4 stars on Goodreads. I think this is a testament to the fact that most Americans read on a YA level. This is exactly what this book is. So boring!
