I so enjoyed this and will read more from this author. If you love mystery, paranormal, and historical fiction then pick the book up. Loved how the author described the ghosts feelings depending on how they passed or feeling at the moment. While also telling the practices black people used to keep bad spirits away. I didn’t mind it being middle grade telling from a child’s pov. The timeline placement and location of this story i felt was spot on. Going from GA to PA and still experiencing racism in1922 while just trying to get by. There was so much ophie experienced from her family dynamic, her gift, and having to work at a young age to help out. When all she wanted to be was in school. I like the author told the story this way. Giving insight on how black people were always set up not to win when it should have never been that hard to begin with in order to have a decent life.
Clara’s upbeat personality i enjoyed and when the truth came out i just shock my head. The other staff in the house had stories as well that kept them tied to this home. Glad there was a happy ending to a story that started sad.
