Piranesi by Susanna Clarke

5.0

This is the kind of book that when you finished it you say "WOW" but also think, I've missed something here.

Susanna Clarke, in one of the shortest fantasy stories I've ever read, creates one of the most spectacular worlds I've ever read. The most intriguing part of this story is how we uncover the making of this world through Piranesi's eyes. It feels like a big puzzle slowly falling together and you can't quite comprehend what you're making until you finished it.

In the end, this story is one that makes you think about the workings of imagination and your own unique mind. We do not need a reason to exist, our existence is valuable because we are alive. On the other hand, Clarke also seems to say- stop trying to find meaning in everything and just enjoy it (something I'm obviously struggling with)!

I really enjoyed this book, and I'll be coming back to it often.
