My Commander by Alanea Alder
3.0
**possible spoilers below**
You've been warned.
This was a solid 4 star read for me through most of the book. I got a kick out of the characters. Our heroine had me cracking up with her geek culture references. I loved it. There were little thinks I saw that were off that kept it from being a 5 star, but although they were distracting, it wasn't enough to take away from the story. For example, towards the beginning, it is explained that there are four cities and four council members for each, our heroine asks how that means that there are 12 council members and could end up in a tied vote. Last time I checked, that would be 16, not 12. The fact that she was human and her mate was a very long lived shifter was never addressed, either. One of the elders had a human mate, so it seemed to be implied that the bond may extend her lifespan, but it is never addressed. I was having fun laughing along with the story that I didn't even mind how perfect our heroine seemed to be. Everyone of consequence loved her immediately.
Why dropped this to a three star rating was the ridiculousness of her taking over the command of the troops at the end. The fact that she was supposedly qualified to lead the squad against a feral attack against the city BECAUSE SHE PLAYED WORLD OF WARCRAFT.
*sigh*
Really? WoW made her into a genius command leader. And everyone was ok that she told the elder off and called him names? Everyone was ok with it? And she will face no repercussions because of it?
It was more than I could take. So, yep. There stars
