I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Overall, I quite enjoyed reading The Unlikely Heir. Callum and Oliver had great chemistry. I really enjoyed the getting-to-know-each-other period; their texting and eventual facetime dates were cute and fun and really helped build the foundation of their relationship. I loved how much Oliver was entertained by -- and remembered -- Callum's fun facts (and it was great to read a character with as big of a tendency to share fun facts as me). I thought I had predicted the Big Drama near the end, and while I was fairly close, there was a twist I wasn't expecting; I'm glad it didn't go exactly as I was expecting so it wasn't too predictable.
For me, it wasn't one of my most memorable reads of the year, and there was a pretty big need to suspend reality (which, to be fair, I expected to be the case). At times, the political aspect of the story wasn't the most compelling, and it was a little hard to believe the public's/other politician's/the monarchy's responses to some things. The side characters filtered in and out of the book and weren't the most robust characters (particularly the people in Callum's life). That said, I enjoyed the main characters and their relationship. I would recommend this to anyone who likes political- and/or royalty-themed romances with notes of forbidden relationships, texting, and medium-burn.
